Getting Started on Social Part 2: Learn Your Platform
As I stated in my last blog, the most challenging part of beginning a social media campaign is getting started. If you are unfamiliar with social media, the process can seem overwhelming. The first thing you need to do is choose your platform.
Let’s say you decide to begin with Facebook. You may already have a personal account that you use sporadically and you are familiar with the basic usage. You’ll want to create a business page on Facebook and keep it separate from your personal page. Remember, though, unless your personal page is set for “private,” a curious client could take a peek at what you post there upon searching you out--so behave yourself!
Fill out all relevant profile information for your business page. Make sure you upload your logos and business images and enter the contact info, email, and website. Ask your friends from your personal page to “like” your business page and begin adding posts and engaging your audience with images and content. Share interesting articles or great posts from colleagues.
Dedicate a quiet hour or two getting a feel for your business page and thinking about how you can use it. You may want to set a budget to create advertising or boost ads as well. This investment will bring your goods and services to an audience far beyond your usual scope.
Voila! Your business now appears on social media.
