People as Punctuation.

The different personalities you come into contact with each day can be compared to the punctuation in every sentence you read or write.

Think about it…some people represent the period. They are declarative, calm, and commanding. They may run the show--or think they do. There’s really no arguing with them.

The “periods” are a stark contrast with those inquisitive beings who question everything. We’ll assign them the interrogation or question mark. They can add a lot of thoughtful points to your meeting, but when it’s 4:45 pm, you really want them to quit asking.

I’m sure you also work with individuals who exhibit an exclamation point personality. Filled with enthusiasm, excitement, and contagious eagerness, they may add some drama to your next meeting—and probably a few laughs as well.

Figure out who the periods, question marks, and exclamation points are on your next Zoom call!

Think of it this way. It’s a good thing that all of us are unique individuals. No one wants all periods, all questions, or all exclamations in their text--variety is beautiful! There may be moments when you wish the period would liven up, or the question mark would stop asking, or the exclamation would settle down.

When that happens, just remember to give yourself some space. Sentences work better together with a space in-between!
