When They're Your Monkeys and it's Your Circus

When They're Your Monkeys and it's Your Circus

When a colleague or a friend tries to influence us and draw us into their anxiety or drama, “not my circus, not my monkeys,” is a good and legitimate philosophy to follow.

Since middle school, we have been advised to avoid others’ self-absorbed, theatrical, or negative attitudes—especially if they have nothing to do with us or our business. Whether it is conflict in the workplace, with friends, or with family members, best practice is to politely step away and do what is right for your business, your family, and your well-being.

Avoid being influenced by self-induced drama, panic, the business practices of others, or FOMO (fear of missing out). Be the Ringmaster of your own 3-ring-circus. That's enough to juggle.
